These rocks are so fun and attainable to do! We offer rock painting as one of our craft classes, but if you want to create your own at home here is everything you will need!
Smooth rocks - These are the ones we used! Most people probably won't need this many rocks, but if you choose a different option, make sure the rocks are prepped! This way all you have to do is wipe off the dust and get started. I know it's crazy, but some rocks come with dirt... like fully just taken off the ground, not cleaned or smoothed, and then thrown in a bag. THESE rocks are amazing and fully ready to be painted.
White base paint - This a high quality art brand that has been tried and tested for years by thousands of artists! I love this paint specifically for this craft because it only takes one coat to prep the rocks with this paint. A lot of white paints can appear "milky" and sheer, but this heavy body acrylic is thick and perfectly white. One coat with a standard paintbrush and these rocks (that start off dark grey/ black) are completely white and ready for your beautiful designs! You can use a cheaper or thinner white paint for this step, but do note you may need to do multiple coats to achieve an opaque white base. A solid white base is essential in making sure your paint markers show up true to color and glide smoothly over the surface.
Paint markers - We ordered these paint markers for a personal project and ended up testing them on these rocks, and... WOW! These are the best paint markers that I have ever tried as an artist - and I've tried a lot of paint markers in my 20 years of making art. I ended up ordering a ton more markers and used them for my local rock painting class! And at the price, they are truly unbeatable! They have a thick side for coloring large areas, and a fine tip for detail work. They are always wet - you don't have to pump these markers for the paint to come out! They are a great way to paint for people who may be intimated by a traditional brush, as well as kids and seniors for a mess-free craft.
